Stevenson’s Halloween Classic

First and foremost, thank you to Elk Grove for such an excellent ICDA 1 and for starting this year’s debate season on a wonderful note. Adlai E. Stevenson is pleased to invite your debate team to compete at ICDA 2 on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Below are the details of the invitation.

Parking

Buses should drop off students in Lot D, in front of Door 19. This lot is north of the intersection of Stevenson Drive and Route 22. Follow the signs for Parking Lot D. Parking for mini-buses and individual cars can also be in Lot D.

Legislation

Legislation for ICDA 2 was received on Monday, October 2nd. JV & Varsity will use the same bills for ICDA 2.

Entry Deadline

All entries are due by 5:00 P.M. Friday, October 20 in tabroom.com.

A school may enter up to 45 debaters at the Varsity level Enter up to 45 varsity debaters and an additional 20 JV debaters beyond the 45 entry maximum.

Tournament Registration Fee

The entry fee is $10 per debater. This is based on your original registration on tabroom.com. TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION checks should be made payable to:

Judge meeting 8:00-8:15am

Session 1 8:15-10:30am

Elections/Awards ASAP

Cafeteria and Classroom Space: When you arrive at the school please make your way to the cafeteria spaces available (same cafeteria spaces as last year) and encourage your students to take their belongings with them to chamber. We have a limited space and will need to be mindful of seating arrangements during lunch.

Please: no eating or drinking in the chambers.

Judging

Each school is required to provide one judge for each session for every 9 entries. The number of entries includes all students from your school entered in the Varsity and Novice levels of the tournament. The number of judges you are responsible for is based on the original entry; drops will not be considered while scheduling judges.

  • Please remind your judges to bring a laptop so they can judge the round.

  • Judges should be entered on Tabroom no later than Wednesday, October 25th at 5 PM.

  • All judges should have a Tabroom account that is linked to your school.

  • A full-time judge is considered as someone who judges THREE full rounds over the one-day period.

  • Judging assignments will be posted at the tournament.

  • Judging assignments will not be available until the day of the tournament.

  • Judging assignments and responsibilities will be based upon original registration at the entry deadline; drops will not be considered when scheduling judges.

  • It is the responsibility of the head coach to ensure that ALL hired judges are trained and prepared to judge the event.

Food and Concessions

Pizzas will be available for pre-order until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20.

We will not be able to accommodate any orders after this time as our school places these orders on our behalf, so if you are interested in ordering pizza for your students please do so by the provided deadline.

The cost will be $18 per pizza, and you may specify your preference of cheese, pepperoni, or sausage. Otherwise, debaters supply their own lunches.

Concessions for student purchase will be sold throughout the day.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided for the coaches and judges.

Awards

Awards will be outside in the football stadium. Teams should sit on the bleachers by the press box. Encourage your students to wear their Halloween costumes—only at the awards ceremony!

Please anticipate approximately 45-60 minutes after Round 3 prior to the awards ceremony.

In addition, please monitor that no full-face masks are worn.
